How Often to Detail Your Car in Florida

Twice a year for a full detail, with washes every two to three weeks in between, keeps almost any car in good shape. Central Florida's heat, UV exposure, pollen, heavy rain, and long driving season create year-round paint and interior wear, so consistent protection matters more than a traditional winter schedule.

Winter: salt is the real damage

Dry-season dust, road film, insect residue, and tree debris collect in wheel wells, lower panels, door seams, and other areas that are easy to overlook. Leaving contamination in place under strong sun can stain and degrade unprotected surfaces.

Wash consistently through the dry season and pay attention to lower panels, wheel wells, and door jambs. The goal is to remove bonded contamination before heat and UV exposure bake it into the finish.

Spring: pollen and the pre-summer reset

Orlando pollen season coats everything in yellow for weeks. Pollen is mildly acidic and holds moisture against the paint, so leaving it to bake in the first warm sun causes real etching.

Spring is an excellent time for a full detail. It clears pollen and bonded contamination, restores the finish, and puts protection in place before peak summer heat and rain.

Summer: UV and everything that lands on the car

Heat is what kills wax and dries out interiors. Dashboards and leather take UV damage that shows up as fading and cracking years later, which is why conditioning isn't cosmetic.

Summer is also bug and bird season, and both are acidic enough to etch clear coat within days in direct sun. The rule is simple: get those off the paint quickly rather than waiting for the next wash.

Fall: the one people skip

Tree sap and falling leaves stain paint, and wet leaves left in cowl drains and door channels hold water where you don't want it.

A fall detail with fresh protection helps the vehicle handle continued UV exposure, rain, tree debris, and holiday travel. Sealed or coated paint releases contamination more easily and is simpler to maintain year-round.

Common questions

Is it bad to wash a car in freezing weather?

Prompt washing is better than letting bug residue, pollen, road film, or storm debris sit on the finish. A sealed or coated vehicle is faster and safer to maintain.

Do automatic car washes damage paint?

Brush washes are the main source of the swirl marks we spend hours polishing out. Touchless washes are safer for the finish but use stronger chemicals that strip protection quickly. A proper hand wash is easier on paint than either.

How long does interior conditioning last?

Roughly six months on leather and vinyl, less if the car sits in full sun daily. Twice a year keeps surfaces from drying and cracking, which is not something you can undo later.
